Oakley 20 that's for you Dad

Thanks to the lovely people at Alzheimer's Research UK for providing me with a running vest on Friday at very short notice. This was the first time I've run in their colours having always run for the MNDA previously. This race was for for my Dad who on Friday was moved to a specialist ward at the Neath-Port Talbot hospital. Bless him, he's unlikely to understand what I've done, but thanks to several generous people our fundraising total has increased by £90.

What about the run? I hear you ask. Well, what a brute of a course. Christine painted a rather rosy picture of her 2016 experience, it must be said. Possibly the toughest run I've done as there were an awful lot of hills in the first 10 miles, and where there are no significant hills the the course undulates rather than being flat. I had a strong first 10 miles and actually enjoyed the hills but it really took it out of my legs for the final 6 which were a bit of a struggle. Still managed to finish in 3 hrs 1 min 7 secs, not quite my best for 20 miles but given the course my best performance over that distance. The pace was largely at my planned marathon pace which gives me a huge amount of confidence looking forward to the London marathon in 3 weeks. Now for the blessed taper.
