New Year's Day - training begins

There are 147 days until we attempt the world's highest and possibly hardest marathon. It seems a long way away, but it will soon be looming over us.

I found out over Christmas that I had a place in the London Marathon, which allowed me to begin planning my training schedule. Everything will now be scheduled to get me into good shape for the 23rd April, then it will be about maintaining fitness until we depart for Nepal. Central to this plan will be incorporating appropriate races in the build up. To date, I have the Cambridge half marathon and the Oakley 20 mile run. There's nothing like a formal event to make you work hard for your training run and you also get the bonus of a medal and t-shirt !

I'll leave Christine comment on her schedule, which is, how shall I put it, somewhat more demanding than mine.

New Year's Day run in the rain.

New Year's Day in Thrapston has been wet, very wet, but I think it's psychologically important to just get out and run even if only a short one as there's bound to be worse weather to come. It was also an opportunity to test some new gear received at Christmas. In my case, a Salomon ultralightweight waterproof jacket. First impressions is that it is well cut for running comfort, seems pretty waterproof and at 120g is incredibly light.

Happy New Year everyone. We wish you good health in 2017, everything else is a bonus.
